Smoke detector installation & replacement in Lake Havasu City
Smoke alarms don't last forever, and most homes have at least one that's past its date, chirping, or missing from a room that needs it. Alex and Zack replace and install every type — hardwired, battery, interconnected, and combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms — so the whole house is covered and every alarm actually works.
What this covers
Replacing expired or failing smoke detectors, swapping out hardwired units that keep chirping, adding alarms to bedrooms and hallways that don't have them, interconnecting alarms so one going off sets off the rest, and installing carbon monoxide or combination smoke/CO alarms where your home has gas appliances or an attached garage.
We also check alarms for landlords, property managers, and buyers or sellers getting a home ready to close. Every alarm gets tested and dated, expired units get replaced, missing locations get added, and you get a straight list of what we found and what we fixed.
How we approach it
We check every alarm in the house, not just the one that's chirping. If one is past its date, the others installed at the same time usually are too, and replacing them together saves you a second visit. We read the manufacture date on the back of each unit and tell you plainly what needs replacing and what doesn't.
Hardwired replacements are electrical work, not a battery swap. Brands use different connectors and mounting plates, so we match the wiring, keep the alarms interconnected, and test the whole system end to end before we leave. You'll get a free estimate up front, and the job is quoted before any work starts.
Why it matters in Western Arizona
Desert dust settles in alarm sensors and causes nuisance alarms, and alarms in garages and other uncooled spaces sit through months of triple-digit heat. A lot of Havasu homes also sit empty part of the year — snowbird and vacation homes come back to dead batteries and a hallway full of chirping.
Rentals and short-term rentals turn over constantly, and working smoke and CO alarms are one of the first things a tenant, guest, or home inspector looks for. Keeping them current is cheap insurance for the people inside and for the owner.
Common questions
How often should smoke detectors be replaced?
Every 10 years, counted from the manufacture date printed on the back of the alarm — not from when it was installed. That applies to hardwired and battery alarms alike. Carbon monoxide alarms have their own lifespan, often shorter, printed on the unit. If you can't find a date or can't remember when they went in, they're almost certainly due.
Why is my hardwired smoke detector chirping?
A single chirp every minute or so usually means the backup battery is low, even on a hardwired alarm. If a fresh battery doesn't stop it, the alarm is likely signaling end of life and needs to be replaced. Dust in the sensor can also cause chirps and false alarms. We'll find which unit is doing it and replace it — and check the rest while we're there.
How much does smoke detector replacement cost?
It depends on how many alarms you have, whether they're hardwired or battery, whether they need to be interconnected, ceiling height, and whether you're adding alarms in new spots that need wiring run to them. We give free estimates and quote the whole job before any work starts, so you know the number up front.
Do you check smoke detectors for rentals and home sales?
Yes. We work with landlords, property managers, and buyers and sellers getting ready to close. We test every smoke and CO alarm, replace anything expired or failing, add alarms where they're missing, and give you a clear list of what was found and fixed.
